A fiver a blanket

casecash.jpg A big thank you to all the people who have started to give me a fiver for the Leprosy Colony to buy blankets. I need a big bag of money to do all the things that need to be done in India. See my article on the church home page. We've raised to date around £170 I'll keep you up to date as we go along. I'm hoping to raise £1250 by the end of next week, so that I can forward it to India before the winter really sets in. Its certainly beginning to feel like winter here in Scotland. especially since today is "Guy Fawkes". There is a kind of soundtrack that goes with the cold nights. Fireworks exploding in the distance and rockets whistling as they fall from the dark winter sky. I remember as a kid in Glasgow you'd start saving up the firewood for the bonfire a few weeks before, however today that kind of project is frowned upon. Too many fires have gone out of control and too many children and adults have been injured. Just think of the millions of pounds that will go up in blue smoke tonight, and what that money could have achieved. I do think we are all bonkers! Maybe its time we drew a line under the whole gunpowder plot affair. What do you think? Anyway winter is well and truly here and I'm glad I've got a coat to wear so i hope i can raise the money to help the men and woman in the leprosy colony get a blanket to wear.

I object to the fireworks every night for two weeks prior to the 5th Nov and even tonight they are still going off!!!!(where do they get the money they’re not cheap?) We were having the same debate at home the other night and I thought my other half was being a bit bah humbug ranting about how they should be illegal. I however was debating that an organised event should be allowed. Being a firefighter he had very valid points and soon converted me to his way of thinking and when you take into consideration your comments of the expense and how the money could be put to much better use, you’ve got my vote. We did enjoy reminicing about our youth remembering the bonfires, I particularly remember the community spirit when everyone contributed to the fireworks and the evening was safely controlled by the adults. However italker, thinking of your theme of “all you can’t leave behind” I’m sure fireworks is one thing we certainly can! Mike don’t even get me started on Christmas! Wonder if my family have already realised that following my trip to India (7 sleeps now) I too will not be lavishing the same gifts as I once might have. Fantastic news about the blanket appeal. £5 a blanket thats the price of a selection box! And is the starting price now for “stocking fillers” not around a tenner? As I said don’t get me started on christmas, gosh now who’s ranting?

My Blanket appeal is coming on. I got another £60.00 today. I’ve put the appeal in the journal, so i hope this will generate more money.

Totally agree that the 5th Nov is money being blown into the air for seconds,  What a waste,  and all to celebrate a man who tried to blow up parliament,  nowadays he would be called a “terrorist” and as a nation we celebrate this crazy anniversary.  As a nation we would rather spend money on fireworks, scratch cards, nail extensions, lottery tickets,  ladbrokes etc,  We are quickly losing the plot,  Anyway dont get me started on British culture.

On a nice note so far picture sale has raised £150 for Sangita Orphange which is fab as this will manage to buy the kids a Christmas present each.

Visiting India has brought home to me how much money we waste on “unnecessaties” here and what a difference the same money would make to others.Do we really need to lavish gifts on ourselves this Christmas, when that money could achieve so much elsewhere?

I know what I want to do.
