A Tale of Two Cities - The Sermon and the Salute

Today is the tale of two cities. Glasgow was the morning and Edinburgh was the afternoon. I caught the 8.49 am train into Glasgow and then made my way to the Cathedral to be briefed about the forthcoming Jubilee Service this Wednesday. Its going to be quite a big affair. The television cameras will be there and the service will be broadcast on BBC 2 from 10.30am onwards. I'm looking forward to the service. A huge amount of preparation has gone into the planning and i'm sure the queen will be uplifted by the music and the  grandeur of the occasion. I got the sermon finished off this evening so I can rest easy tonight. I'm going to preach from Revelation 22.1 Its a wonderful passage , which contains magnificent imagery. I sometimes think we don't spend enough time reading books like Revelation. The imagery and the metaphors are  uplifting. Although I will admit that some are more meaningful than others. Then it was back to Edinburgh where I had an appointment at the Castle as the reviewing officer. This was great experience as I reviewed the troops who gave the 21 gun salute to the Queen. It was indeed a great honour to be asked by Brigadier George Lowder to carry out this task. The army in Scotland are keen to develop strong links with local communities as they prepare to have many thousands of troops returning home  over the next few years. It was good to see a wide selection of leaders from the many faiths in Scotland being represented at this event. I'd like to say a big thank you to Habib Malik, a leader from the Muslim Community who took this little video. The rest of the week  we will be involved with Royal duties  attending the garden party  later today at Holyrood  and Thursday we'll be at St Giles's for the special service at which prince William is installed into the ancient Order of the Thistle. Then when it comes Friday I'll be reviewing a different type of troops at T in the Park.

:( Thank you Bobby! As much as I am actually willing to pay for BBC iPlayer Global, it is for iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad only - I am on laptops, using Mac OSX and Linux Mint - thus a no-go for me.

Helmut.

If you go onto the BBC web site & choose i.player you will see the last 7 days which will allow you to see the Glasgow Cathedral one.

Might not be for nothing that my email addresses go along the lines of “fog bell”.... Just now I am at a complete loss - neither do I see a video, but even worse, I am unable to trace the BBC 2 television programme. Mind you, in all likelihood I won’t be able to watch it, being continental. Help, anybody, please?
