Just want to say how excited I'm feeling about the launch of our ten new home groups this Autumn. Its a real encouragement to hear people joking with each other as they make the pitch to persuade friends and neighbours to attend their group. We have chosen as our theme " The Essential Gospel Tool Kit" Its a kind of refresher course touching on the five questions that are asked of all of us when we join the Church of Scotland. In the tool kit is a reminder that we are...

Looking Back In Order to Look Forward

Its really quite amazing to reflect back over the years and consider how the role of ministry in St Andrew's Bo'ness has changed. When I arrived 30 years ago this coming Wednesday, with Martha and Sarah Jane, the church was closed for most of the time, except for a couple of hours on a Sunday and of course there was the odd meeting during the week. Could they not be contributors to the angst that seems...

Florence is a sensational place. The architecture is stunning. I was walking toward the Duomo this morning. The crowds waiting to get in stretched for well over a couple of hundred yards. It got me thinking. This is a city where people come to reflect on the glories of artists of the past. What I'm seeing today could never be built again. No one would want to build it again. The cost would make it impossible never mind trying to find the skills. We've lost much in...

The World From My Doorstep

I'm looking to enlist the help of my readers. We are needing over 25 prayers to appear within the next day or two. Can you help? Sanctuary First is an amazing website that we service from St Andrew's Bo'ness. During the month of August we have chosen "Prayer from my doorstep" as a theme. The idea is that we will collate prayers from all around the world. Prayers by ordinary people, as they look out of their door and see a factory or rooftops, or noisy traffic, or...
